Gondwana Ecology Group is a small family owned business, that has an extensive network of collaborative partners and affiliated organisations, ensuring on-time outcomes of the highest standard.
Ecology is our passion.
Gondwana Ecology Group was established in 2013. It was the brainchild of it's director, Justin Watson. Justin and family immigrated from South Africa 20 years ago, and Australia quickly became their home. It therefore seemed logical to select Gondwana as a business name, referencing Gondwanaland.
At Gondwana we strive to provide solutions and outcomes to the highest standard to ensure a positive ecological outcome. We value Australia's rich diversity of plants and animals and seek to provide balanced solutions that will ensure we, and generations to come will continue to enjoy our unique flora and fauna.
We're passionate about the environment and so naturally we keep ourselves abreast of any new environmental developments. Justin also continues to contribute to science by doing conservation and research, partly aided by his affiliation to Charles Sturt University where he has been awarded an adjunct position. He also champions many conservations projects through local environmental community groups and other conservation organistations throughout Australia. Justin also continues to contribute to science by doing research aided by his affiliation to Charles Sturt University where he has been awarded an associate professorship. He also champions many projects through the various local environmental community groups. Justin is an advocate of working in the community to help educate and motivate individuals to treasure our native lifeforms.
It was a conscious decision to keep Gondwana small, and we consider this as an advantage because it allows us to select projects we would like to be involved in, produce work at a consistently high standard and be flexible. We've collaborated with a large network of like-minded professionals. This enables us to hand-pick particular experts in their respective fields, as projects require. To date, this business model has proven to be very effective.
Gondwana Ecology Group maintains a collaboration of professional, academic and community organisations, including:
Gondwana holds scientific research, animal ethics and rehabilitation permits in Queensland and New South Wales and regularly provides feedback to the approval committees.
Justin is a Certified Environmental Practitioner with EIANZ and an Associate Professor at Charles Sturt University. Justin has been a past committee member of QELA and past council member of Birdlife Australia. He is also approved by the State as a "suitably qualified person" to undertake protected flora surveys.
